Ok, so I'm noticing some odd things in FFLogs that if anyone can clarify for me, I'd appreciate it. I've had no problems updated files, but I'm seeing odd info on the site. Mainly:
Merc, Kahlan, and I are no longer showing as "One More Adlo" but as "Reign of Crows". I THINK this is because of our merger w/ Nexus, that we need to "reimport" our characters, or something. However, I've already reimported my character and I'm still showing as a Crow.

Ok, so again, I got consumed with numbers, and I came across a very interesting statistic:
We ALL suck at keeping our Dot's up!!!! Not just one, but almost all of us!
Looking at a5s, comparing each of our best performances to the #1 ranking of that class on fflogs, I found that the most significant difference is our uptime on our dots. Here's some of what I found:
Solarus: DRK: 640 dps on 5/4/16 I used Scourge 10 times for uptime of 50% #1 DRK kept Scourge up for 93% and only cast it 8 times. On WAR, I only kept fracture up for 35% of fight.
Ash 934 dps on 5/18/16: You used Shadow Fang 19 times w/ DOT uptime of 56% #1 NIN used Shadow Fang 18 times and kept it up for 85% of fight He used Mutilate 11 times for uptime of 90%. You used Mutilate 17 times for uptime of 72%
Merc 1237 dps on 4/25/16 (no, you didn't have a BRD): You used Thunder 8 times and Thunder III 11 times, for uptime of 57%. #1 BLM used Thunder 4 times and Thunder III 11 times for uptime of 73%.
Improving here will have a MASSIVE effect on our DPS for two reasons: 1) the extra numbers we'll each put out personally with the more ticks. This is damage that is happening while we're doing other things, so is essential to keep up.
2) We're using these abilities more often than we should, and getting less out of them. Consider the other abilities we're NOT using b/c we're overcasting these.
Please don't take this as being critical of anyone (I put my name here as well). This was just something I noticed that I think could be an easy fix for each of us. If each us looked into this, I think we'll see a great improvement in our performance.
Just to make it fair, I'll throw a few else out: Ketu: 1187 dps on 5/18/16: Used Demolish 22 times for uptime of 71%. Used Touch of Death 9 times for 47% uptime.
#1 MNK Used Demolish 16 times for 86% uptime. Used Touch of Death 10 times for 82% uptime. LOL, he even threw in Fracture 2 times for 10% of fight.
Hannah: 526 dps on 5/25/16: Cast Bio II 15 times for uptime of 80% Cast Bio 12 times for uptime of 42% Cast Miasma 11 times for uptime of 51% Cast Aero 15 times for uptime of 50%
#1 SCH: Cast Bio II 9 times for 81% Cast Bio 16 times for 85% Cast Miasma 12 times for 83% Cast Aero 14 times for 72% Cast Miasma II 1 time for 4%
11 T3 procs off of 4 T1 casts??? It actually appears I did far better than him in attempting to maintain my DOT's and he just hit the effin' lottery.
Thing is about my DOT…. I only have one window per rotation to cast it (between B3 and B4). I just can't put it in anywhere or else it's a significant DPS loss. Any movement greatly narrow that window. If I have to sacrifice a cast due to the timers, it will ALWAYS be T1 of course. Can't lose a F4, or worse B4/B3 refreshing ENO. So the fact that I'm getting off 8 T1's in a movement heavy fight is actually kinda heartwarming.
I'll admit, there are a LOT of things to consider, especially for casters, that influence. But in terms of melee like me, ash, and ketu, these are abilities that we're just not hitting enough.
Sol is absolutely right however. Anytime I've parsed higher than normal on a ST, it's always been due to smoother DOT mgmt. The meat and potatoes of my rotation has always been set with X factor being DOT mgmt. And hoo boy… can it make a MAJOR difference even if you don't see the big numbers flying. Death by a thousand cuts and all that jazz.
Ketu brought up another relevant variable to the differences here in the length of the fights. Obviously the amount of casts would be influenced by push phases and simply time up. Maybe not fair to compare a job's performance in an 8m fight to a 5m fight. % of uptime, though, would still be relevent, and that's where I noticed I was weak on: maintaining scourge throughout. We should still be pushing for high % of uptime. The more dps we do is what makes the fights shorter.
To FURTHER illustrate Sol's point, I went back and looked at my 5 logged parses for A5S. Highest DPS to lowest DPS coincides exactly with highest DOT uptime to lowest DOT uptime. A clearer case could not be made.
Thank you for pointing that out Sol, I Will watch where I throw up my Mutilate and Shadow Fang DOT's I usually try to get them up frequently, but looks like i'm doing it too much, and could be using that time for more burst damage, or Aeolean edges.
Yeah, what I think I'm doing, too, is I'm recasting Scourge long before it's really up. So if I reapply Scourge while it still has 15s on it, then I'm wasting cast where I could use another combo. THEN recast it.
